Well, let's go to the beginning 30 years ago. At the start
of the new school year in 1972 at Schurr High in Montebello,
California, Roland Ortiz, Aaron and Alonzo Quintana were thinking
about joining a club. They checked out a few but could not
find what they were looking for in any of the clubs at that
time. They decided to start their own club instead. They thought
about a name but it had to be meaningful. They pondered and
came up with the name of Techniques. They looked it up in
the Webster's Dictionary and the definition is "show
you how". Next,
they had some jackets made and were known as a jacket club.
What happened next? Techniques first members built some really
clean cars. The next step was to design a plaque for the club.
The OG plaque was a thin, long bar of brass with the name
Techniques.
Our OG members went through rough and sometimes violent periods.
This period is now known as "The Club Wars". Back
in the 70's and 80's, our club was fighting for respect. Today
we recieve and give the utmost respect from other car clubs.
We are now older and wiser with plenty of experience. We are
out to make the lowriding community a safer and better environment
for our families and friends to enjoy.
In the 90's Techniques totally reorganized the club with
members coming from everywhere. OG members even came from
out of state, all for a picnic on a sunny, hot day in the
month of May, back in the mid 90's at Penn Park, Whittier,
California. As the old and current members got together with
families and had a great BBQ, which was organized by some
old members, we had games that included: Over the line, volleyball
games and an egg toss contest. Lots of fun had by all especially
the children.
Afterwards the members came together for a little meeting
and our families got to see what it means to be from Techniques.
Most of us had not seen one another for a lot of years. After
hearing about Daniel "Danny Red" Aguirre passing
away and having no stone on his burial site, some of the OG
and current members made a donation to make a difference for
a fallen member. We got together with Danny Red's family and
planned a dedication ceremony at the gravesite located in
Monterey Park, California. May "Danny Red" rest
in peace, one of our most dedicated members. It's people like
him that make us who we are today as a club.
It
was after the dedication ceremony that some of the OG members
got their second wind and had to have a car again. We had
gone back to our homes, were we had been living with our families
and raising children in several different states and local
communities in Southern California. Some of the OG members
thought they got the lowriding out of their system years ago.
Boy, some of them were wrong! They still had it in their hearts.
We have some members that travel the country for business
and wear their colors and even members who go to war"
in the Military (club jackets, shirts, anything with Techniques)
with pride. In and out of cities around the country, Afghan,
Iraq someone is always coming up to one of us and says "My
dad, my brother, my cousin, or even and uncle or friend were
in Techniques".
We have attended small and large car shows in the last 32
years around the world. One of many most recent trips was
to Las Vegas, 2001. We had the second most entries by any
club with a total of 31. We came home with trophies in almost
every category we had entered. Our cars range from old bombs
to Impalas, newer Caddies and Town Cars but no Euros. We travel
by car carriers for shows that are out of state the most recent
trip Odessa TX. Three dedicated chapters, Palmdale and S.F.V.,
drove their cars on 13' wires to Las Vegas and the Dallas
chapter to Odessa, TX and back with no problem. One stated
"we do drive our cars to most of the shows we attend
throughout the year". Our mother chapter, Los Angeles,
has their monthly meetings and Friday night outings at the
lot in Baldwin Park, California for the past 20 something
years, LA Chapter III's old lot, with the support of the cities
of Baldwin Park and Irwindale, Councilman Mr. Bill Van Cleave
and the police department. We hold our annual car show in
the city of Irwindale, California benefiting "Scholarship
for Students", which will help for school tuitions and
college expenses. A big thanks to the Mayor, Police Department
and Recreation Departments Dan Grijalva of Irwindale for all
their support.
After the car show in November 2001, we had a caravan with
OG car clubs back to a members house in West Covina. We saw
something some of us never thought we would ever see. Techniques,
Imperials, Klique and Together Car Clubs having a great time.
We were up till 2:00 a.m., with most of us working the next
morning. There was storytelling about the old days. Time has
changed things for the best and this get together proved it.
Techniques have a total of 9 chapters. 8 here in the states
and 1 in Japan. Our Palmdale chapter has dedicated members
traveling one hour to attend meetings. Our Inland Empire chapter,
which is in San Bernardino/Riverside County, has become a
dedicated chapter. They kick back on Saturday nights at a
50's style Denny's located on the corner of Cedar Ave. and
Foothill Blvd. in Fontana.
The Phoenix, Arizona chapter was totally shut down temporarily.
It was started back up with the true Techniques plaque design
and rules. With new members, they have been on a roll for
the last couple of years with quality cars that represent
what Techniques is all about.
Our
most honored chapters our Fort Bragg, North Carolina &
Dallas chapters, with all or most of the members being in
the military service. They have a dedicated member who travels
from Virginia to North Carolina for meetings and in Dallas
some travel as far as fifty miles. We want to thank our members
for representing the TECHNIQUES car club as well as our country.
Our newest chapter, Dallas is located in varies parts of
the Dallas/Ft Worth TX area. The cars that have come out of
Dallas are definitely clean and have made a great impact with
loco car club in there area flying the Techniques plaque.
San Fernando Valley is also north of Los Angeles. The caliber
of the cars that come out of the S.F.V. are definitely clean.
They had joined out Palmdale chapter originally but ended
up with their own chapter.
We went International with our Japan chapter, where lowriding
is at an all time high. Cruising every weeknight and weekends.
They are located outside of Osaka, in the city of Tokushima.
You see turntable cars cruising around Japan flying Techniques
plaque.
And last but not least, our oldest chapter, the bike club.
This chapter shows at so many car and bike shows all year
long, sweeping every category they enter. Benny Miranda, Bike
club President, has been in the bike club since he was 5 years
old.
Now twenty something years later, the bike club is one of
the most competitive Bike clubs around.
Now you know allot more about Techniques and what it means
to be a part of our family. We will stay the way we are for
now. Last after hearing of Richard "Fat Rat" Albaran
passing away this year again we came together supporting a
fallen member and his family. Flying colors and plaque we
caravan giving him our last respect to his resting place we
won't forget you rest in peace, one of our most dedicated
members. It's people like him and Danny "Red" Aguirre
that make us who we are today as a club.
Let's change the way others think about lowriding. We are
fathers, husbands, loyal hard working Americans that want
a better place for their children. We are committed to helping
the less fortunate. This artwork we have created with our
cars is like artwork that an artist paints on a canvas.
We
want to show the children and teenagers they too can have
cars like ours one day with hard work and dedication. Stay
in school and get and education. Don't stop the learning process
after graduating high school. Continue to grow and prosper.
And together we can change the way others see the lowriding
community Internationally.
We are the fastest growing motor sport in the world and everybody
is watching the OG car clubs.
The change starts with us. We are ready for a change. After
the attack on our country September 11, 2001, car shows and
cruising should become safer for everybody because it's time.
We all need to make a change for the better. We cannot change
the past but we can learn from it.
Look for Techniques plaques and colors on the streets, around
the country and in Japan, Afghan, Iraq. It would have never
happened without out dedicated members, current and OG, and
their families who have supported us for the last 32 years.
Thank You from the whole Techniques Car Club Family.
